About Viking
Viking's story is one of a homeowner who wanted more from his kitchen. In 1987, Fred Carl Jr. of Greenwood, Mississippi, wanted a commercial-style range for his home but couldn't find one. So he designed and built his own—and Viking Range Corporation was born.
The company's mission was straightforward: bring the power and durability of commercial kitchen equipment to home cooks. Viking pioneered the residential professional range category, introducing home cooks to BTU ratings, commercial grates, and stainless steel construction that had previously been reserved for restaurant kitchens.
Viking's Mississippi roots remain central to the brand identity. While many luxury appliance brands have moved manufacturing overseas, Viking continues to produce their ranges in Greenwood, Mississippi. This American manufacturing commitment, combined with their professional-grade construction, has built a loyal following among serious home cooks who appreciate both the performance and the heritage.
Viking in Arizona
Viking ranges and cooking equipment perform robustly in Arizona conditions. The commercial-grade construction handles daily use without issue, and the high-powered burners provide consistent heat regardless of ambient temperature. Arizona's natural gas supply works well with Viking's burner systems. One Arizona-specific consideration for Viking equipment is the open burner design on some models. While professional chefs prefer open burners for their responsiveness, the design can allow more dust infiltration than sealed burner systems. Regular cleaning of burner components maintains optimal performance. Viking refrigeration has had a more mixed history. Earlier Viking refrigerator models experienced higher failure rates than some competitors. Viking has addressed these issues in recent models, but homeowners with older Viking refrigerators may experience more service needs. We see these older units regularly and can advise on repair-vs-replace decisions. For Viking dishwashers, Arizona's hard water affects them similarly to other brands. The professional-style construction is durable, but mineral buildup requires attention. Regular maintenance and water treatment help maintain performance.
